How can I be Racer if there isn't any racing?

How?
With Spring well on its way, you and the Missus could race.

Apologies for the poor quality. They were taken by a fellow backpacker with a Canon compact of some kind. Scanned from prints.

Red ones at first, then a white one to make sure you're clean.

The Romans used a sponge on a stick that was passed around in the public latrines. Mind you, they did dip it in vinegar every once in a while to freshen it up a bit.

Of course, if you didn't have time for the sponge to be passed you'd go without wiping. Togas are good that way, good ventilation to blow away the stench. Just like kilts, I guess.

That I do! I have put on a tad more bulk over the years, but you know, too much doesn't look good

Yes, I am so proud of my man bits, I am growing a shelter over them. Beer.

Oh, well, that too. But I was thinking about bulk that's more than just, umm, insulation. My shoulders and back kill me if they don't get some exercise. That wasn't a problem 20 years ago.

There is definitely a beer induced shelter trying to establish itself. My knees are not too keen on carrying too much, though, so I pretty much avoid sugary stuff to be able to enjoy the really good stuff. Like beer. And bacon.

No idea. But I did have a friend who used none. He preferred telephone books. He grew up very poor and always considered toilet paper an enormous waste of money, even when no longer poor.
Telephone books...both new and old can be a great resource, other than just to look up numbers. Now of course a telephone book is a rare commodity indeed.

my 20's I was able to rip telephone books in half...sizeable ones. There is a trick to doing it....it\s all in the wrists.......the trick is lost in the mists of time of my mind unfortunately. I always made sure they were old telephone books.

When I was still a preschooler we lived on the outskirts of a small town.
Our privy was a two holer, our TP was a Sears & Roebuck catalog.
My memories are vague, other than using it in winter.
Oh, and spiders!

When I was a kid...say from 5 years old to 15 years of age, I played hockey...defense. From around 5 to 11 years of age, I used store catalogues as shin pads, under my hockey stockings. In Canada in the '50's the T. Eaton company and The Hudson's Bay Company were two enormous, Canadian general stores that did big mail order business in Canada and their catalogues were big, solid and flexible. We got a Hudson's Bay and a Eaton's catalogue...each....every year. I would use the past years catalogues....one for each shin.

I eventually got regular shin guards, but to this day I maintain that the old Eaton's/Bay catalogues were much better at absorbing, slap shot pucks and hockey sticks wielded forcefully and 'low' by opposing players .

I don't know what young hockey players do now...given that there are few thick catalogues made...probably fewer large general stores in existence. Don't think their replacement with all the on line shopping now...ie; an Apple and a PC computer tablet are going to be able to cut the mustard as hockey shin guards.

We used to call that 'shelter' a Labatt's tumour, as you probably recall as a fellow Canuck. Others from different parts of the globe, know it as a beer belly.
