Hi Racer

All pedals work the same only the seating position is changed

so all cars work the same
gear shift just change hands, left for rhd and right for lhd
Simple eh

And yeah the Unimog shifting isn't as complicated as it looks - only a 20 speed transmission; my uncle has one of them, though I wasn't allowed to drive it...
Probaly for good reason.

You'd get it stuck in the mud.

And it sounds like the turn signal stalk is placed on the right side of the steering column for right hand drive cars.

Quite.

Wouldn't want to complicate it too much.

Whatever it takes to move the shift levers.

But how many are shifted on the fly?

A lot.

Triple stick. Whistling turbo, and deep open pipes.

And even though the newer transmissions have everything on one shift lever it still is pretty busy.

This guy explains it pretty well, but he is sure a bubba redneck.

This guy actually gets out and runs down the road a bit.

And electric overdrive. Pretty cool, and not peculiar to only Rambler, but they passed it off as a economical sporty option.

My dad had a1963 Chevy pickup that had a 3 speed manual gearbox with a two speed electric overdrive. It was shifted (engaged) with a cable and when engaged, if you were rolling along just cruising, and wanted to pass someone, you just stepped down on the accelerator and is would shicft back down that halaf a gear the overdrive was at, much like an automatic does when you mash the loud pedal.

I always wondered, on right hand drive cars, do they reverse the layout of the pedals? On left hand drive, accelerator on the right, brake in the middle, clutch on the left.

How about right hand drive?
No, pedals are in same order on right hand drive. You shift with the left hand though.

Well he is going downhill, in a river of mud.

And those tires look like flotation balloons.

At one point it looks like the logs are pushing him.

Must be a propeller under that thing.

The engine sounds awesome. What do they have in them for power?

Every car that I have had (all RHD) has had the turn indicator on the RHS of the steering column: a good place for it.
I drove my son's work vehicle once - Mercedes Vito van - and every time I wanted to indicate to turn I turned on the windscreen wipers!!
I suppose that one would get used to it, but it was a bit frustrating even for a short drive.

Almost all European cars have the directional indicators on the left stalk, while Jap vehicles have the indicator stalk on the right, whether LHD or RHD.

Or a 1902 Benz, which is different again. Everything done by hand - no foot controls at all. I don't know who first came up with the standard pedal placement and google's been no help.
