Any preference for beer?

Bratwurst.

I still remember the first time I had Bratwurst. It was sometime in the early '90's. We were traveling and had just set up our RV trailer at a trailer park. The next day, as it was July the 4th, Independence Day....we (wife and me, our two young kids) decided to drive out to the nearest small town and see what was going on, regarding 4th of July celebrations.

It was great. They had a parade, Bratwurst on the BBQ's, face painting for the kids, etc. Lots of fun. First time I had a Bratwurst and I must say, I really enjoyed it. So much so, that I had a second one.

Did I mention it was Wisconsin.
We have a packing plant here and they make over a dozen varieties of brats. The Cajun are my favorite, but the blue cheese runs a close second.

I see that Bob is on line so I won't say how I cook them.

You would have to sit in one of the tin cans that sits on Racer's wings for a long time to get there.

I know. I done it quite many times from your local airport.

Where I come from "brats" are bipedal, shortish, often snotty nosed and ill-behaved.

BTW: they are living humans.

They would be considered such by the constabulary in the kind of charge they put against you if you indulged whatever temptation may come upon you prompted by their behaviour.

I don't why they don't seem to be available much up here. We do have smokies....I'm not sure if this isn't another name for them or what ?

I think I need to investigate this matter further in my local area.

Your smokies would be like our smoked sausage, cured and can be eaten without cooking.
Bratwurst needs to be cooked.

Bratwurst is a German recipe, contains Veal and beef along with sometimes pork. Delicious with mustard or just about anything.

I should love to post a photo of the Cumberland sausages from Thursday's barbecue!

But we ate them all.

Thanks you guys for going over the difference.

I'm a bit surprised out here that we do not have seem to have bratwurst, as in our provincial demographics I believe that people with German ancestry are # 3 in terms of the % of numbers in our province.. ...so we may have bratwurst and I just never noticed. I have been known to miss the blindingly obvious before, on many an occasion.

Rob, I see you are in St. Louis, Mo. When I was a little kid my parents and I visited some relatives who lived in St. Louis and I recall having an extended family picnic there in some park, by a big river. Must of been the Missouri, if I have that right. Nope, I had that wrong, it was the Mississippi .

Anyways it was a hot dog and potato salad type of meal...or so I thought.....maybe, just maybe, I did sample a bratwurst back in the mid '50's at a park along the shores of the Mississippi river in St. Louis.

As a 6 year old kid though...any type of wiener in a bun...looked like a hot dog to me.

BTW, I also recall going to the St. Louis Zoo when on that trip.

Was I impressed...saw my first (and only) Orangutan.

Les
