Hi Mr Fox

Sydney and Melbourne are both on the coast.
Out of the 2 Melbourne may have a sprinkle of snow 1 or 2 days in some years.
Canberra is half way between the 2 in the Snowy Mountains so is known to recieve a sprinkle or too.

I've lived in Canberra, Dave It gets the occasional dusting, but you'd still be hard pressed for any chance of downhill skiing Black Mountain or Mount Ainslie

Given that, I thought you were joking about a different kind of ... snow ... being found among the political elites, and I suggested it may be as popular in the banking towers of Sydney and Melbourne as it is on Capital Hill.

For rural life and skiing he'd be much better off in the Falls Creek area than Canberra, no?

Wangaratta - an hour or so from the snow, rivers to fish in, never colder than -6c and never hotter than about 43c (but only a couple of days in a year, for both coldest and hottest).
Also wineries to four corners of the compass, a couple of craft brewers in the district; what's not to like?

Mmmmm. why am I here? - I don't drink, I don't ski, I don't like -6c mornings and I don't like 43c days.
But it is still a good place - 230 kms from Melbourne if you like cities (Ahh - that's why I am here.)
I am on the edge of town and my Council rates are $2300.

(Really lied about the distance to the snow - 2 hours to either Falls Creek or Mount Hotham.
And petrol (gas) costs an arm and a leg
And some times the fog lifts at 3pm and settles again at 4pm.
And... )

That DOES sound enticing! But my super realistic long-term plan is to move to the Adelaide Hills, work at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and spend my free time hiking, camping, gardening, cooking, baking, star-gazing, maybe woodworking ... and visiting the wineries.

Hi Rod

Atleast the council rates are just under $ 2000 here.
Wineries everywhere........ but no snow

I see you are trying to keep it all for yourself.

BTW: the area is famous for gangsters.

The new RAH, near the train station.

All kinds of bother in building it.

My daughter used to put sticky take on the players for the football club that uses the oval opposite it. That is real football, Aussie Rules, not the soccer game where the players fall over when someone runs near their shadow.

You are wrong. About once every 10 years there is a report of snow on Mt Lofty.

The trick to minimize council rates is to live in the most expensive council area (Burnside), in a house which is up to about the average for the council area. That way your rates are about 2000, and you get full services from the council. There were some people in Auldana who lived in the Torrens Valley end of dead end streets that were serviced from Burnside. they were the most expensive houses in their area, and paid 3000-4000 p.a. and their street was not maintained and the rubbish was collected by Burnside under an agreement between the councils.

One reason I left was too many days over 40. Made it too hard to grow my fruit trees.

We have that here, but we don't call it football or soccer.
We call it MMA. Mixed Martial Arts.
The Canadians have their own variation. They do it on ice and call it hockey.
