String is a very important thing.
Rope is thicker,
But string is quicker.

Does Spike rank as sufficiently nutty? Or does a field of theoretical physics hypothesised over for, oh, thirty years at least without experimentally testable results or a coherent prediction or two, rank as thoroughly nutty? My money's on the late Mr Milligan.

I didn't know that Spike was a string theorist, but his "theory" does look more sound than the other kind

Oh, and the more I read about MOND theories the less convincing they look. Most seems to require gravity to travel more slowly than light, and well, it doesn't.

But hey, what do I know. I'm no more a physicist than I'm a physician.

Dynamo powered lights are great until you stop.

Nope. While it's true that conventional bicycles will require more effort than an electric bike to travel a certain distance, and thereby result in a greater degree of fitness, I've seen several claims that people get in better shape with electrical bikes compared to traditional bikes because they use them more. And my own experience, brief as it is, fits well with that observation. What the assisting motor does is to lower the intensity, "flatten the curve" if you will, but you still have to use your legs. The motor can not (by law) at any time contribute more than you do yourself, so at most take 50% of the work (and no more than 250W even if you should manage to put out more than that yourself). So when I halve the effect to 125W there is plenty room for a fitness benefit.

Especially since I haven't owned a working bicycle for years until now

As a side note, the lower intensity means my knees still work the day after such a trip. My old bike killed my knees up the hills - which is why I stopped using it.
Very true. People who've not got off the couch for years are buying e-bikes and getting out, getting some exercise. Best part is, people who would previously have taken the car half a mile down the road for an errand, are now using their e-bikes and that leads to less congestion, cleaner air, healthier lifestyles and more broken collarbones as people who've not been on bikes for years inevitably fall off occasionally.

Primarily because battery technology is such that I can light up a huge swath of road for around 4 hours with a compact light and battery and it's on even if I need to stop for a flat tire. Fixing a flatty in the dark is no fun.

Family outing to the beach on Sunday. Cold and wet. Photos taken during a brief period when it was not raining. Teenager does not get cold, so don't let the bare legs fool you. The rest of us were freezing. The dog was happy though.
Unfortunately the beach is a 135km round trip, or we'd do it more often.

Thanks Dave. She's a good dog. And notice the clean teeth. She's just been to the dentist. $650 later.

Vet took a look at him and indicated he looks mostly Siberian Husky and Greyhound. He is very fast, powerful has tremendous endurance, has a double coat, loves winter....-25, -30 seems to be his kind of weather. When he starts hard from a standstill, the only way I can describe it, is that he 'explodes' off the line.

Beautiful dog, with lovely amber eyes.
