What do you guys think, is the universe isotropic? Has the speed of light always been the same? Is the scalar–tensor–vector gravity theory a better approach than introducing dark matter?
Still going about this fast at my little corner of the world.

Dynamo powered lights are great until you stop.
So a small lipo battery, or some of those things that the Fox is selling below.

That's all well and good except my errands usually involve 50lb bags of dogfood or sheets of plywood. Oh and town 25 miles away.

But that would be perfect for a cargo e-bike, either a longtail with a load bed or one of the box bikes

Don't think it would work here, during the winters. Many times winter is here late October till late March, early April. Lots of snow, ice and cold....real cold...-25,-30 .....and worse for extended periods. The ice on the roads is hard like concrete during the winter...we don't get regular melts and slush.

The TV show Ice Road Truckers was filmed in province.

In the summer months, yes.

When I was a pre teen and teenager, I used to ride my bicycle miles and miles....went everywhere (summer). Back then they almost invariably in my part of the world were single speed. I had an English Glider and an American J.C. Higgins. I remember wishing I had a Glider with a 3 speed Sturmey-Archer ...but that was not to be. Not sure how the Sturmey-Archer worked, think it was in the hub, but that was long ago and my memory is somewhat misty when it comes to the '50's.

True, and the speed and accelleration tends to be higher than they're used to. I'm aware of my lack of practice and hope that this awareness might help keeping me in the saddle

Then again, those wannabe TdF guys go even faster and seem to have collarbones made from pretzels

No, no, not thinking of anyone in particular...

Yeah, the winters are pretty much the same here, although usually not as cold around where I live. The main problem is that the cold will sap the batteries a lot quicker. You get good quality studded tyres for the ice and snow, so that part isn't so bad. The number of winter bikers have risen considerably over the last decade or so, and even more with the e-bikes.

Of course, here they tend to salt the roads (including the bike roads) quite heavily. Makes for easy travelling but your chain will need changing in the spring. Which is why I opted for a belt driven bike.

My first bike was single speed. I remember my pride and joy when I got my first 5-speed Come to think of it, my brother still has his - that bike must be close to 50 years old now

I'm pondering a Riese & Müller bike for touring use (as the Tern, with its smaller wheels, is better suited for city streets than for dirt roads). I'm sure that a German built bike won't break like that, eh?
