Me too, or my 1911. No bears in this part of the state, but plenty of mountain lions.

We have those too.

Probably more of a concern than the local bears.

Maybe the reason we don't have spiders that hunt and kill mice is because the cowboys were real good shots and dispatched them all up here.

Australia does have a lot of smaller animals/insects poisonous snakes, etc.

In my part of Canada we have reptiles, but nothing poisonous, but I wouldn't dangle my fingers in front of a common snapping turtle....or a big Pike. There are rattlers (snakes) in other provinces. Insects too, ones that sting, but nothing poisonous to people as far as I know.

But when I think of it, we do have large....potentially dangerous animals.....Black Bears all over the province, then way up north, lots of Polar Bears and the odd Barren Ground Grizzly bear (which after thought being extirpated from the area) there are now instances of them slowly coming back, moving in from the NWT, etc.

Timber Wolves are here, although not many instances of them going after people, the occasional Mountain Lion, Elk, Caribou, Moose...who if you were to bug them might come after you.

I guess pretty well everywhere there are animals/insects that can be dangerous to people......just different ones in different parts of the world.

Well now that Roger is gone, they probably aren't so much of a threat.

drop bears!!
I forgot about drop bears.
We don't see them around here so much, so they rarely come to mind - but I would always wear PPE when visiting areas where they frequent.

Roger may not be a problem, but...
Skippy and all his rellies are real threats; the big central claw on each hind foot are pretty good at ripping human chests right open.

Ok...yeah...but that's only when you put boxing gloves on those kangaroos.

Yeah, you really gotta be on your toes when one of those is rumoured to be about, eh?

I don't think an Australian Drop Bear would have any chance at all, if it squared off with one of our North American Jackalopes. Think the drop bear would meet it's end at the pointy end of the antlers of a Jackalope .

Not to forget about venomous rabbits and vampire whitetails. Gee, I'm not quite ready to die yet, so both North America and Oz are off my list of possible hiking destinations.

Better to stick with tried and trusted Africa. The only wildlife ever entering my sleeping bag there has been a sand frog

All I will say to these concerns is we’re just past peak haggis rutting season here.
