I've always been a voracious reader, but since I started the PhD all my energy has shifted to reading literature (and scientific writing is horrible), unfortunately. I've read like 5 or 6 novels in the last 4 years, when I was doing about one a month, at least, before that.

I'm starting "The Damned Yard", by Ivo Andrić - I've had that one on the shelf since I visited Belgrade almost three years ago. I already read "The Bridge on the Drina", which is fantastic (and while fiction, it's a very good depiction of life in the Balkans throughout centuries, from the Ottoman domination to the end of WWI and the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire). Drina ctually won him the Nobel prize (and I'm told The Damned Yard is actually better, at least in its original language).

Science-fiction is still probably my favourite genre, although I've always considered it a misnomer... it's more of a setting, there's adventure novels in space, thrillers in space, existentialist novels with high-tech futuristic societies...
Ever read this?

Indeed. He got up to no. 22 on Billboard's Hot 100 at the age of 91. Never too late to make it in the music business, eh.
He also played the dual role of Professor Frank N. Stone (get it ) and a malevolent robot that was modeled after the tall Prof., by the tall Prof.

I remember watching it when I was young guy and doing my own 'take', which BTW wasn't bad at all.

Eventually, I did the 'robot' around my very young children.

I hope, it did not have a lasting impression on them.

They seem to be relatively normal 30 something adults (age, not numbers) and for the most part, to their good fortune, have taken after their mother....and also taken up residence elsewhere.

Yay!
We hit the freezing mark yesterday after going 13 straight days below freezing.
Next few days in the 40's F, so goodbye snow! The last one dumped almost 8" on top of a couple that had been hanging around.
I've cleared a path to my favorite grill, so hold my beer and watch this!!

Another weekend at The Big Shed. After 6 weekends in a row, they made me skip a weekend. Apparently we aren’t allowed to work more than 3 in a row.

Pfftt!!

At this point I would work 7 days a week until I retire, if they would let me.

Hi Racer

Dangerous ploy that one.
I have known some do that and then expire 6 months into retirement. Never to get the benefit of their labours

Another Big Shed-built jet passed our way this week, my BIL tells me: NASA's 747SP carrying the Sofia IR telescope. She flies at up to 45,000 ft and I suppose that high up you'd get above the rain that's dropping this afternoon!

Is it so hot the supermarkets are making big money from deodorants and antiperspirants?

Hey Racer!!!!!!!! Looks like you did a good job building this 777 wing. Happened today right after the plane took off from Denver heading towards San Francisco. Plane returned safely.
