All this looks good, and I'm looking forward to seeing if the K-3 launch will revive enthusiast interest in Pentax in the US, and perhaps get some users to switch over from other brands. The debut of Canon's and Nikon's enthusiast full-frames caused a lot of people to jump ship in the wrong direction...

A positive take-away from this is that Ricoh clearly pays attention to what influential web sites like IR (and no doubt DPR) say about their gear.

Which I guess means they may also have their ears tuned to feedback from other sites - like PentaxForums, hopefully.

I like that promo video ... but probably just because as the camera pans the table full of lenses at the beginning I was saying, "I've got that one ... and that one ... and that one ... I'll eventually get that one ... I had that one and sold it ... and that one is one of my favorites!"

LBA is a dangerous thing.

I got the email also and was very excited and impressed with the marketing effort, very refreshing. Excellent video with a respected professional photographer. Putting my money aside for an upgrade!!

All this is very encouraging and, for those who have ordered a K-3, early November delivery is only a few sleeps away. What would be good, publicity-wise, would be a host of great photos (and videos!) from new owners, posted in the first 24 hours. Ricoh could do worse than to ensure that the new bodies got to dedicated Pentax users in time for something like this to happen.

Nonetheless, having endorsement from serious professional photographers (as we've seen already) is a comfort to those who have ordered the K-3 on the basis of the early previews and the specifications, so more of that would be useful to boost sales in the geniune enthusiast market. Sam Haskins did a power of good for the brand in the film era.

Was that the much maligned 16-50 zoom that was being used in the video?

Yes, it was. Apparently, they're not good enough for professional use…

To be fair, he was probably offered that lens lineup for the shoot, and the 16-50 would have been the most versatile lens for the situation.
