To be fair, he was probably offered that lens lineup for the shoot, and the 16-50 would have been the most versatile lens for the situation.
They probably gave him two in case the SDM failed... Ha ha ha ha

Hmm. The gloss would quickly go off the image, if they hadn't solved the SDM issue by the time they started handing out those lenses. You'll pardon my lack of humour on that issue, having been down several ultimately unsuccessful paths to fix mine.
