Received my K-3 today

Okay, it's out of the box but I am at the office, no formal tests yet. With my FA31 and FA43 it focuses very fast in low light, on a solid black briefcase. The Select Focus Point works like it should, not the crappy K-5 implementation. Feels slightly heavier but the grip is a little more substantial which is makig up for it(with the FA31 mounted). Put my old Gordy strap on it, some black gaffer tape cover the K-3 insignia, looks 95% like the K-5...hopefully 100% to my spouse...lol. The rear lcd is nicer, 3:2 is a bonus, the diopter is way easier to adjust as well. For all the Ricoh whiners out there, the box say Ricoh on it!!!...lmao, there will be gnashing of teeth over this for sure. The viewfinder is also larger, although that may be more the fact that it is squeaky clean than substantially larger.

Thanks for the report, you must be among the very first to receive a K-3. Please, keep the news coming! Especially about the new AF and image quality.

I'll wait until it's under a grand in January! Trolololol

Ahh, regardless I have to wait for one until early next year when I have some money due to me. Can you confirm whether the ISO is expandable below 100 or not with production firmware?

Alright ... we've given you enough time to get out of the office and start taking pics !!

It is now 15:44 here (should be the same in Niagara) ... enough time to get out there before the sun sets.

Waiting for pics .... waiting for pics ... did I say "Waiting for pics" ?

I will follow this thread keenly for samples. Too bad our Singapore frank's pictures could not be seen by me. I am hopeful that the Niagara frank's samples come through!

Congrats! While you're at it, can you do some flat-surface tests with the K-3 and FA43 at a few medium apertures? Some might groan at this, but some time ago I was reading Photozone.de's updated review of the FA43 on the K-5. Between the K10 and the K-5, the newer body had downright abysmal borders/corners until at least f/4. I think they were inclined to blame the different AA aggressiveness between the two cameras (there is also some field curvature of the focus plane). I thought this must be a mistake until CRIS sent me my "repaired" K-5 with a CD of sample images using the FA43. All were taken at f/5.6 of a brick wall and EWW, only the center could be called sharp. I'm curious to see if the K-3's lack of AA makes a difference with that lens.

I can't see how the AA could impact only the corners. Many a test site has found soft edges with the FA43.

please let us know how big is the RAW file size on the production model, I can't believe the IR DNG files are 30-40mb, that's close to D800 file size

Agreed, the filter is across the frame not more or less strong depending on how close it is to the center of a image.
