Thanks to the 8.3fps of K3 that makes these shots possible.

A couple from today with the HD 1.4x TC and DA* 300mm f/4. These two are mostly static shots. All my BIF attempts were nowhere even close. I've shot over a thousand test shots trying to dial this combo in. I think I must be getting too old to do this anymore.

I to find it difficult to do birds in flight with this combo. Today the light looked perfect but there was some haze going on and all shots with the TC got blurry but without no problem. I have a +4 set for the combo and zero for just the DA*300. I start every shoot with a static subject and check the focus in AFS. If ok then I try AFC but it is not working as good as without the TC. Tested all the settings for AFC and none works as I want it to. Even at 1/2000 it would not become sharp so it is not hand shake or to fast moving targets. BUT sometimes it hits the mark. Without the TC it hits most all the time... Tested with and without SR.

EDIT: Also have found that if you leave the center of the frame it tends to become blurry even if the center gets got sharpness.

Well, that's disappointing and discouraging. I guess I'll go back to the old 1D2N and Sigma 100-300 plus 1.4x TC.

Did they offer to give you a free test drive in trade for a print of your image?

You just have to practice and make the adjustment needed for the combo and the shots will be in focus. Set it up on a tripod and adjust it. The depth of field is very narrow even at great distance so focus is paramount. I forgot to add that what I stated goes for subjects that are far away. When at, lets say, up to 30 yards it is a different story. I have made some very good images with the combo. At first I was dissapointed but I have learned, and still I am learning, to master the TC+DA*300. When used with my macro Tamron 90 it is a great tool to get even greater magnification.

I decided to let Ricoh do the calibrating. I FedExed the combo to them earlier today. We'll see what they come up with. Maybe I should just go back to manual focusing lenses
