No flash or reflector, just late afternoon sunlight & AWB. The sun was about to dip below the back neighbor's place, and so the background was already in the shade, which is, I think, what can give the impression that a flash was used. The lilac tree was still in the sun, and this one sparrow ventured closer than the others. I shot at continuous medium and was trying to get some nice catch lights in the eyes - the sun was camera right, more or less. Something might have been reflecting light off the house too, because there seems to be a second catch light in the eye, but that was not deliberate - in fact I have no idea what might have done that!
I picked this shot out of two good frames, and the post was just some mild levels and curves adjustments in Gimp.
