A few quick and dirty wide view Astros taken with the K-3 and a Samyang 14mm f2.8 , mangled in Lightroom 4.4. Had a 45 minute window of opportunity this evening. They are all taken at f2.8 and 30 second exposures. Two are at ISO 1600 and the other at ISO 1100. I'm not very practiced at this astro lark, but it seems quite a capable combination. If they aren't up to other's astro standards definitely don't blame the hardware.

All very nice. Pity about the power lines in the 3rd, though. I have turned on all in-camera lens corrections on my Pentax lenses that support it. It really does make a difference not having to bother with it in post. I doubt the Samyang is setup for in-lens corrections, though.

Thanks. I haven't really played around with astro shots much before. I borrowed a friend's iOptron Skytracker so the foregrounds are a bit blurred. The Samyang pretty much straightens out with a +5 manual distortion value in LR. The power lines were there to show how cleanly they are relsolved by the K-3 even with the skytracker's movement .

Ah, I see. I have the Pentax O-GPS1 unit and have found that you can't really notice the fuzziness of the foreground objects much as long as the exposure time is relatively short. Of course, this would depend on the focal length of the lens used.

I see some great shots here. Anyone familiar with Belted Kingfishers will know they are some of the toughest birds to get close to.

I know I can do better with this bird and I am looking forward to get rolling with this camera in the coming months. This is about a 100% crop as you can see pixel noise on the head of the bird and edited in Lightroom and Topaz Denoise. (flight shot below it)
hell yea those things are super tough and beyond fast!! I got a couple over the weekend don't think they are as good as yours though, great job

Been battling grey skies around here. Not exactly conducive light for "wow" type photographs.
