A few more shots. All of these were taken at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge about halfway between Rochester and Syracuse, NY. All shot were from the car as you can not leave you vehicle in most areas. All with Pentax D FA 150-450 lens.

I am beginning to think that the D FA 150-450 is going to stay glued to my K3. I really, really like this lens.
Sounds like the kind of reach I'd like to have instead of having to crop from my sigma 100-300 f4. I wonder how the IQ would compare between the two?

Radeon

Am I right in guessing the lens used for that image is a SMC Takumar 35/2?

Wild Mark,
No, I used the Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG EX HSM @F1.8

ahhh that explains the shallow depth of field and teal CAs (second bird from left). the 35/2 doe the same when used wide open.

Awesome shot. From what I have experienced with this lens and seen from photos posted by users of the 100-400 f4 I think that it is as least as good. Below is a shot that I took with the lens at 410mm. The original and then two crops.

Thanks DogLover. I can't believe my lazy arse sat on it for over a year before PP'ing it!

Impressive. I don't suppose you have anything above 400mm with the aperture wide open? Actually, I just found the 150-450 lens club thread...I'll have a poke around in there.

Joe; your images with the K3 and the Pentax 55-300 are amazing! These really have my hopes up, as I'm getting the K3 shortly, and have really liked my DA55-300 with my K10D; so I can't wait to see it with the new K3!

Thanks so much for posting these, so many people do not think the 55-300 is a capable lens, like what you have posted here!
