A couple fun shots here, the saw shot was done with the DA* 16-50, the coffee shop with the FA* 28-70.

The saw I probably would have done well to use a tripod for, but it was busy, only had a second to take the shot

I've been lurking here (still a K5 user, but admiring all the K3 shots), but had to speak up on this one... it really speaks to me.
Great shot and use of HDR... normally the ones I see are so over-cooked the HDR just makes it looks fake or otherworldly, like infra-red, but this picture shows a really nice use of the function.
If anything to make it even better or into a true postcard shot, I would only say to clone out some of (not all) the leaves sticking out in the bottom left corner, but that's a minor niggle.
Thanks for sharing,
Eric

I agree entirely with this comment. At the local camera club there is at least one devoted HDR enthusiast (Nikon user, of course), but I find many of the images unworldly and not pleasing. The contrast is commonly too low, with no deep blacks. I find the HDR-auto setting on my K3 generally gives reasonably naturalistic results where there is an extreme dynamic range. I have also found that using HDR for moving water on a sunny day will blur it slightly and pleasantly.

Thanks to both comments. Never had used an in-camera HDR before so I used the lowest setting. Perfect use for it since the sun was bright at times and also in the "wrong" position in the sky creating deep shadows (early morning sun was non-existent). And there was little wind which helped the sharpness of the leaves/plants. This was only a 0.8 second base shot set to +- 2 EV. Can be fun to experiment.

Somehow, most use of HDR is in the realm of science fiction.....

Great shot of Taghquamenon Falls. Excellent example for use of HDR. I have been considering picking up a Sigma 10-20 for awhile now.
DA 10-17 13mm f8 20 second exposure

10mm f8 15 second exposure

Betty

Nice use of natural light with background and clothing. Pretty smile too! Are Betty's ear studs sharpened???

And also nice Flckr pages. Great to see professional portraits and such using Pentax gear!

K3 and DA 12-24

Here is a 15x5.8 format image taken with the new-to-me K3 and the old DA 12-24 I bought with my K10 in November, 2007. I have not fine tuned any focus yet. Seems to be OK to me. The image is full width 6016 px, cropped to fit a 1500x580 web banner.

The small square picture is a 100% crop of the doorway. I am blown away with the resolution of the combination. Tripod used, of course. In camera HDR with 2 sec lockup. I can read the white on green sign behind the post to the right of the door looking from the camera. We are talking about a small bit of text here!
