A lovely shot Ken. The exif data suggests you used a 1.4xTC. Do you shoot from a tripod or monopod/

Cheers,
Terry

Nice night shots. I don't mind the railing as it helps to give a sense of depth. It does look a bit accidental though. Looking at the Molson sign and the sky I would say that it's maybe a stop overexposed. Just my $0.02.
Thanks all for the thoughful responses, folks! I've decided to keep the railing. It's the majority opinion, but was also my feeling prior to posting. I think it is helped by the fact that the line it makes is echoed by the lines in the water, and so it doesn't feel out of place for me. (I did have another shot with great light from the first day - just a bit more purple than the one posted - where the rail was at the very edge of the frame and out of focus and was just a distracting blurry black blob. But here, after some reflection, I do feel it has its place.)

BTW, it's really amazing how quickly the light changes during blue hour.

wtlwdwgn, thanks for the comment on exposure. The original was shot at -7/10 eV, then brought up in post. It's always tough for me to gauge how much to make a shot "pop" - there's so much competition for attention out there... (I use Gimp so I'm dealing with levels and curves tools and can't simply add X eV to the exposure.) Following your comment, I rolled this one back to a previous, slightly more muted edit (and updated my post above since the update broke the bbcode).

Thanks again!

Wild Beast

Was testing my new k-3 with all my lenses, and found that picture taken at 6400iso was quite good.

This is one I took in South Africa last year - another beautiful Table mountain sunrise - but only the 18-55mm kit lens, so full marks to the camera

Nice shot, Savoche. Makes the 55-300 look pretty good. Do you have any idea how far away the foxes were? Is it cropped? Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. If memory servers me right they were about 30-40 metres away. The image is cropped, but I will have to check the original when I get home to estimate by how much.

This wildebeest was right by the roadside. Not quite the same level of cuteness and good light, I'm afraid

A hover fly grounded, or maybe leafed?

There are definitely better tele lenses out there than the 55-300, but none for the price, size and weight. Perfect for travelling and hiking.

Another from the fox den. Here the pup decides to show itself.

Yes, that's why I find your shots so interesting. I really want to avoid carrying the comparatively heavy 60250 or 300. This 55-300 is so much lighter and seems to give decent results in good light. I generally take the 50-135 which gives excellent IQ but does not have the reach.
