Pretty pleased with the colour rendition.

is that a rose? regardless, colors are real nice, man i can't wait to get my hands on a k-3!
I don't think Canon or Nikon has a chance against this Camera , they might as well hang it up!

My own printing at A3+ doesn't support that view. Unless I've done something wrong, an A3+ print of a K-5IIs ISO 51200 shot shows less noise (both luminance and colour) than an A3+ print of a K-3 ISO 51200 shot, even where the same scene is shown on the print because the cameras were at the same position with the same lens.

I urge people to do their own side-by-side tests then print them large. I worry that there is too much theory here about what the effect of megapixels and pixel-sizes should be, and not enough about what happens in practice if people take the same scene with the same lens from the same place then print them so that the prints are otherwise identical.
I have now done my own side-by-side tests with my own cameras, and come to significantly different conclusions from those I came to from processing the Imaging Resource DNGs. I have no idea why the results are so different. See My Pentax ISO tests.

This leaves me a bit confused. I won't be doing any more work on this in the near future, so I hope to see real-life practical tests from others. It would also be good if someone can identify if the Imaging Resource images are an anomaly. Or are my own tests flawed?

Changed it. Each folder/subfolder now contains a "preview" folder. If you click on it a preview of all images is displayed.

More and more K-3 shots are appearing on Flickr.

A quick question : Is the DA 50mm f1.8 really that bad when stopped down to f8 ? WTF is going on in the top right corner of this one ?
The EXIF says SR is not stabilised.

Barry, To my eyes, the k3 shot at 51200 is under exposed, therfore noise will be higher.

edit: yes, checking the exif data, the K3 shot was at 1/180, the K5II shot was at 1/125 both at f5.6

I think your own tests are probably closer to the truth, as they track closer to what DXOMark found when they compared the new 24MP D7100 to the 16MP D7000.

I don't know what's going on with those original IR samples. I wonder what firmware they had.

Anyway, I personally think the K-3 looks pretty exciting.

also, the 6400 shot has different exposures, K3 is 1/20th and the K5II is 1/15th, so again the shot that is under exposed is going to show more noise.

Edit: same at iso 100, K3 3sec and k5 4sec

Good shots.
No flash on the first ? Second?
The 100 % crop of the woman's eye is pretty good.
Noise at ISO 1600 for the first crop ... expected given that it is taken "out" of a slightly underexposed area of the photo.

Thanks for sharing.

JP

Edit: the pics look better when seen on Flickr.

You should be pleased: very "likable" yet very "subtle" colour(s).

Thanks for joining into the party !

So your conclusions in one sentence are (tell me if I'm wrong): the Imaging Resource image samples make the K-3 look noiser than it is, perhaps due to some issues with colour balance or in-camera settings.

Your samples certainly look cleaner than the IR ones.

Look pretty good for noise. However like the guy in the red chair photo much better at:

Also no 'Pentax red rendering problem' in that shot either.
