Thanks Lori! It is always such a thrill to see them, and to be able to have my camera with me, was indeed a big bonus!

Indeed, kitties might become victims of these very large birds.

In my neighbourhood, 185 pound cats eat cats.

Got a stack of images of these turkeys a couple days back, so I'm trying to scatter them in different threads. K3 + 150~450.

Nice shots everyone! Here was a difficult one to shoot, a very black bird against the sky.

This is a "Common Crow". K3, Pentax 55-300 + Tamron 1.4X TC, handheld.

Here's what we refer to as a "Camp Robber", but is actually Clark's Nutcracker. Lewis & Clark saw this species on their journey into the West, and named it. Camp Robber name comes from how tame they are, actually coming down into camp & stealing food with individuals right there!

Nice shots, Carol!

For me, it's still pretty exciting to look up and notice an eagle flying around. We never used to see them around here. It's becoming more and more common. The only bad thing is I worry for my cats.
If it's a baldy, probably not a threat to your kitty as they much prefer fish, and being so big, would have a hard time nabbing a kitty unless it were out it a very open space.

Well, I would've thought the same, but I actually had a red-tailed hawk fly through my picture window going after one of my cats that was sunning in it a couple years ago! So, those big raptors worry me.

I actually don't worry as much about eagles as hawks because I think of eagles more as scavengers and hawks more as active hunters. Still, I figure if desperate enough, they certainly could be dangerous.
