hey, thanks for the feedback. the 12-24 is one week new to me. i'm currently kicking the tires on it to see if it'll get the job done in the real estate photography arena; a possible career change for me. i read numerous reports of severe CA concerning this lens. it does exist slightly but nothing that can't be cleaned up in a matter of seconds. i've been intentionally shooting in high contrast situations to see how she handles. no complaints thus far.

12-24mm, ƒ/8.0 24.0 mm 1/320 ISO 200.

When I go out with no idea of what I might see and want to go light, I carry a LowePro 100 sling with DA 12-24 and DA 55-300. My most sold shot was taken with the 12-24 during my test walk around. It was shot to check out the reputed bad CA and PF; I was using a K-10
in 2007 right after I bought them with grip: a shop in Ottawa was selling a kit. I was shooting with the sun at 30° left, 20° up. The sun was just barely covered by the hood. I'm with you: no complaints, and I still have and use her.

K-3 and DA*200 ƒ2.8 with stacked TCs for 476mm
ISO 400, ƒ8, AV

The sun is so spotty, it's hard to get images today. I don't have any Goldfinch images since June. I sat out today waiting. but when he did come he was on the backside of the feeder, and there was too much Jay traffic for him to settle in.

Those darn Jays.....

Chickadees and Nuthatches just wait for an opening in the Jay traffic, then dart in and dart out.

now that all my Echinacea has gone to seed i've got a whole town full of Finches. if only i had a DA*200 ƒ2.8 with stacked TCs for 476mm i'd be set. i'm sure if i did i wouldn't probably see a single Finch. and if i did, i highly doubt my images would look nearly as good as yours. HOLY CRAP! i feel like i can reach into your shots and touch those beauties. nice work, sir!

12-24mm, ƒ/11.0 - 12.0 mm - 1/200 - ISO 200 - handheld

Thanks for the nice comment.... that 12-24 did a nice job there. I went for the Sigma 8-16, but I always wonder if the 12-24 would have done the trick.

For years I used a Sigma 70-300, and currently the DA 55-300 is quite good.

With a 1.4 TC that would get you to 420mm with a reasonable investment. Although as yet I haven't been able to find images from someone who's tried that combination.

Norm, the Pentax DA 12-24 was the first autofocus lens I ever owned. Here is one of the first photographs I took with it. It deosn't get a lot of work, but I really like it. It is also pretty good on my K1 from 18-24mm.
