(x post from Thematic Show your texture, pattern, repetition, shape etc. shots here! thread)

what's to like?

It is just a simple picture of a trumpeter swan found at the Topeka Zoological Park standing on one leg, right???

I like:

the pattern of the waves coming into the shore and then rebounding back

the circles formed by the drops of water onto the water's surface

the hint of gold in the water

the reflection of the Trumpeter Swan

the pattern formed by the feathers of the swan's breast

the lone large feather, with several smaller ones, on the shore

the highlight on the check of the swan from the reflecting light off the water

and

the sense of, at least for me, will the swan on one leg overbalance and fall??

Yes, those are American Robins or winter Robins as you mention. I didn't new that they are here already. I guess Spring is coming... In surrounding trees I saw much more.

I've seen them with snow on the ground near Lindsay pigging out on last years crab apples. But I think it was a little later in the year. But, I've also seen them in Niagara Falls,at all times of the year. I don't think they ever leave there.

Correct about Robins overwintering. We learned that when visiting Cape Cod on a brutally cold day in February. There were flocks of robins that were feeding on bayberries. Subsequently they have appeared in our yard during January & February, showing interest in remnants on the crab apple. On the image RAART posted it looks as though they're feeding on staghorn sumac seed heads.
