Ah yes, wild turkeys. Either the bravest or stupidest birds I've ever seen. A flock will march into the road and defy you to drive through them. They seem to be breeding well, especially in the upper Great Lakes region. Compared to even a decade ago, they seem to be everywhere these days. You can't hunt them out of season and if you decide they are the stupidest birds, they make a mess of your car's grill and the meat isn't worth salvaging.
they can be very dangerous to hunt
not because of the danger of the prey but the other hunters hunting:
just read about how near Wichita Kansas, some "bright" hunter nailed his brother and a friend while hunting using the "sound and motion" method.
very dangerous when everyone hunts in camo, tries to be hidden and sound like the prey to attract them. [ You have to wait until you can see what you are shooting. ]
luckily other than the necessary trip to the ER for shotgun pellet removal, they are all ok now. Not sure if they are talking nice with the shooter or not
Since all were properly licensed, they had been through the manditory hunting education program which would have warned them about hunting using the "sound and movement" system - " You can't fix stupid "
