Second the compliment - yes it is kick ass.
Thank you kindly! Weather's been pretty awful this spring, with tons of rain and very few shooting opportunities. But getting a shot like that makes it a little better...

I think I'm going to change my user name to fumblefingers! I don't know about the rest of you but when I'm shooting sequences of stationary and moving subjects invariably I will hit the shutter speed and f stop dials. Arrrrrggggghhhh!!!! Here I've gone from 1/1500 to 1/750 and f/11 to f/13. Therefore my shots go from nice and sharp to somewhat blurry. K-3 and Sigma 150-500 at 500mm. The AF is otherwise spot on. Sheesh!

1/1500.

1/750.

A couple of Owl shots from today

The little ones just seem to be more curious as the days go by. Here are 2 shots. They probably will not be here much longer.

Thanks guys. It is easy when you have good models that sit still and don't fly. Ha Ha.

Return at early morning or late in evening so the light is not as harsh. Move around the subject to see if there isn't a more flattering or congenial back ground- it seems to be composed of river rocks or sea worn so there is possibly water near by that you could try and frame the stack against - get lower so the stack is more imposing against the sky. Think it through then click shutter.

experiment, experiment, experiment

with modern DSLR, and not considering, cost of computer, camera body, lens and memory card, no expense unless you print

so experiment, experiment, experiment

over head, side view, low view etc, etc, etc, and so forth and so on

btw, I like it as is with the shadowing you captured
