Hi Normhead - what lens was used to take these shots of rusty car parts ?
Those were taken with the DA 18-135, and hand held, in low light, so the worst possible conditions possible. We walk our dogs a couple times a day, so this was a couple snaps taken while walking the dogs. I didn't even have my tripod with me.

For the birders

Gotta love that crop-ability:
K-3, DA*300mm @ f/5.6, 1/1000s, ISO 560

K-3, DA*300mm @ f/5.6, 1/250s, ISO 280

Hi,

I've been using my K3 for some Studio Shoot today, it's gorgeous !
All ISO100 with 3 different lenses, Pentax 50-135mm, Sigma 17-70mm HSM and Tamron 90mm Macro.

A quick unedited pic (not part of the final selection) with the Pentax 50-135mm.

Then 100% crop - this is fine detail I cant' achieve with my K5 I think.

Makes me wonder if I could use a DA* 300 instead of my A-400 and get pretty similar results.

Edited a bit though, little bit of contrast filter. No sharpening required though

From the A400 samples I've seen, and as a former A*300 f4 owner, I'm confident sharpness would be there, if not better. Don't forget, you're used to seeing your A400 crops at 16mp, not 24. Fringing would be waaaaayyy better.

What do you see? Hard for us to judge without seeing the original scene. No blowout anyway.

What a great set of shots. Thanks for these.
Colourful scenes, a range of subjects, useful DNG's
I agree, nice set.

What's up with the colours ?

I've loaded a couple of your DNGs into Silkypix Pro 5 which I normally use and there is nothing obviously wrong with the RAW files and yet somehow the colour is 'blah', 'boring', 'dull' etc. even with a bit of tweaking (exposure, gamma, black point ...) that I would usually do.

I've noticed this trend before - K-7 was excellent, K-5ii less so and now K-3 seems to be the pits.
I don't see it. I felt like the K7 files tended not to yield true colors -- grass tended to get neon easily. Had to work a lot harder on files from the K7 compared to the K10 or K5.

ISO6400 @f2.5 1/30th second with a Sigma 30mm f1.4

Pretty happy for two reason - one, in a jam, that photo would likely keep a client happy for social media use (and it has good colours) two, the AF was bang on.

FWIW, I don't think people should be concerned about the 'more noise' the K-3 might show at 100% compared to the K-5. Just wanted to link to this post in this thread - basically, when printed or displayed at the same sizes as the K-5, more MP can work as an advantage and compensate for noise during a downsampling routine, like sending to a printer driver or exporting with LR.
I was about to post something like that. 100% on the K-3 is 150% on K-5 (well kinda..) and when viewing at standard print sizes it's likely the noise from the higher ISO's on K-3 would be moderated and appear quite natural.

Nice shots, especially the baldie. Some grain at 100% and ISO 1600, to be expected, but very fine and not offensive. Easy to work with.
