A close up of bucky's nose.... I left the 145mm UV filter on for these shots, but I see no difference with the filter on or off. The filter is usually on just to keep dust off the lens, then removed before I use it.

Most often the time a filter is noticeable is when the light strikes the filter, adding to the flare.

For those that have never seen a large filter, that is a 52mm polarizer sitting on the 145mm uv, just to add some scale....

I thought the 116mm diameter Rubinar filters were big. They look like plumbing fittings.

Around here, Carol, they are four legged pedestrians we have to watch out for all the time. . Some of them still haven't learned to use crosswalks and look left and right before crossing. One of them wiped $4,500 out of my bank account in the late 80's when she decided to commit suicide on a busy highway. I was elected.

Albert, that's why I no longer drive at night, after moving here. The highway into town goes between a lake and hay/grain fields. The deer come into the fields, and then cross the highway to the lake. I've seen too many of them alongside the road that got hit, to convince me not to drive at night.

K-3 and DA*200 ƒ2.8
ISO 500m ƒ8 or ƒ5.6 and AV 1/60 -1/200

I'm cheating on the focal length, explanation to follow.

I've had a cackle of 40 or 50 grackles all summer. They of course dominate everything but the blue jays, But as a result, the smaller birds are in the habit of barging in and getting the best seats, sometimes when my hands are still on the feeders. The nuthatch sits on the bill of my baseball cap. As soon as the chopped nuts are spread on the horizontal feeder, it's pig out time for the samall birds. Hence, I can stand 3 feet away. They like it, the large birds won't come near. As long as I'm there, they keep coming back. The Pine Siskins just sit on the feeder, close enough I could probably grab one.

''

The chickadees are quick, it takes a lot of shots to get one you like.

And my buddy the nuthatch. There's two so far, and they are always fighting. I suspect siblings. There' also a White Breasted Nuthatch, but, there's no pictures to date. He hasn't figured out the routine yet.

Sometimes I have to. Last night was bridge game in Fernie, 35 Km (22 miles) 6pm to 9pm. My MacBook joins Hart's IBM Laptop backing each other up with the game scores and player database. We are in the process of moving up to electronic scoring, so both laptops are at the club every week for a while. Other evening meetings happen as well.

Deer whistles help a bit. They help a lot with elk. They look up and watch us drive by. Mule deer, not so much.

I'm fortunate in that living here for 22 years, I've had no need to drive at night.
