Had a few months to practice with my K-50 and get familiar with the settings. My K-3 arrived a week ago but it's been raining, snowing or just plain overcast. Today was pretty cloudy but decided to see if I could find anything to shoot. I attached the SMC Pentax-FA 80-320mm, set it on aperture priority, f10 and turned the EV compensation up one. Used spot focus to catch a duck. Nothing great but better than I thought considering the weather. I really love this camera. Back to snow in the morning.

You're getting some really nice in flight shots. Could you tell me what kind of focusing works best for you for these shots? I'm using the back focus button and spot, afs & afc.

thank you appreciate that.....to be honest I bounce all over the place but the majority of the time it is spot & afs always using back button af....release and reacquire...especially with busy background....I have many great shots of trees and white caps on water!!

.....if there is a good chance it will be all sky i'll switch to auto 9 (maybe 5 I ferget but least amount) with afc.....also have gotten lazy hand holding so tripod n gimbal head

My buddy Dave.
The woman with him Ellie was a photographer who started out wanting to learn more about photographing birds, and just started learning stuff. Now she seems an integral part of the Toronto birding community, as is Dave. In her modesty of course she claimed she's only famous for bringing treats to the meetings.

Both Dave and I were hoping for Red Crossbill photos. Red crossbill - Wikipedia

But even though people told us they were there just before we got there, we only saw White-Winged Crossbills, of which we both already have photos.

Being Family Day weekend there were lots of photographers in the parking lots.

Dave feeds the Canada Jays, when they have choice, they seem to prefer cheese.

Inspecting the scene to make sure it's OK to go for those outstretched hands full of food.
