From my Saturday walk with.. cross posted from Post Your Photos. Sigma 8-16 and DA 18-135. Exif is not stripped, so you can download and view exif.

Leaving town for the park, the gas station with restaurant and the Mad Mucher Restaurant both had their parking lots full with snow mobiles.

At the car park, dog sledders are waiting to take some people out for some overnight winter camping.

Heading out on the trail.

We had recent fires in Southern Australia. This is the sun at 5 pm in mid summer shrouded by cloud and smoke. K3 with 500mm sigma.

Temperature was starting to cool down from the 44C or 112F.

If long exposures aren't a problem for you always shoot in ISO 100 (which may require a tripod).
If they are a problem then just increase the ISO as much as you need to get the required shutter speed, but no more.

If using auto ISO, I'll set it to 100-3200 or 100-1600 but sometimes it will pick a higher ISO than you may need, especially if you are using a tripod. In those cases I set it my self to the lowest value that would work for that particular shot.
Thanks matt, I usually do exactly that.

Based on yours experience, what's best choice in ISO settings? I shoot only RAW, so, should I go to NR on (and on which value) or of, and which setting (slow, green, fast) is the best in Auto ISO Parameters?
Auto ISO is supposed to be pretty strong on the K-3 and Ed from "Photouniverse" sez to turn it off to maintain sharpness.

You mean that the best solution is to turn off NR completely or just for higher ISO?

The NR settings are there in-camera, so it makes sense to use them. The Pentax engineers did a decent job in making the high-ISO NR work effectively. Using those options comes at almost no cost to sharpness if you apply the settings moderately.

I shoot RAW+ , but for the JPEG output I set the High-ISO NR to kick in gradually. I have JPEG NR turned off until IS0 1600, then Low until ISO 6400, then Medium from ISO 6400 up. I've been using pretty much the same conservative high-ISO NR settings on the K-x and the K-5 for years.

Thanks for clarification, my friend. I shoot RAW only, so, based on your experience, should I go with similar NR settings that you using for JPEG pictures, or you have some other advice?

By all means try those settings and see if they work for you. But the best settings will depend on the subject and your shooting style. Landscape probably won't require the same NR or other camera settings as shooting live music, for example.

Absolutely, every scene require different approach. Just now I set NR settings just like yours, only different is, as I mentioned that I shoot RAW only. Now in the next few days I must do tests in higher ISO. BTW, what software is the best for NR in PP. For now, I'm using Lightroom. Is there better solution?
Thanks for the answers and helping!
