Well, still no crocuses to shoot at over here! The lilac tree has just started to sprout a few buds. Here's one from yesterday in the backyard. HD DA 55-300mm, with a heavy crop (17MP):

That looks great!!

... dumb question... did you use a white or silver reflector, since the EXIF says no flash? The catch lights in his eyes, and the white balance is so wonderfully neutral, it just made me ask, otherwise it must have been a spectacular day for shooting.

Super clean for a heavy crop. Well done!

No flash or reflector, just late afternoon sunlight & AWB. The sun was about to dip below the back neighbor's place, and so the background was already in the shade, which is, I think, what can give the impression that a flash was used. The lilac tree was still in the sun, and this one sparrow ventured closer than the others. I shot at continuous medium and was trying to get some nice catch lights in the eyes - the sun was camera right, more or less. Something might have been reflecting light off the house too, because there seems to be a second catch light in the eye, but that was not deliberate - in fact I have no idea what might have done that! I picked this shot out of two good frames, and the post was just some mild levels and curves adjustments in Gimp.

Thanks for your comment!

Didn't say much when I was there, but was sitting pretty much in the same spot. Will scrounge and post a previously unposted image when I get a chance.

A little shorter and she could have poked your eye out with those cannons

Here is, I'm certain, that same Berlion, not roaring for me, just bored. K3 with Sigma 18-250.

Added a second image. Big tongue. That little dark spot lower left of his nostrils is a sure ID.
