Lovely shots. The incongruity in the first shot is very good. Plus the ray of light aimed at the energy plant is an added bonus. I had forgotten about fences with step built into them. Thomas Merton was a monk at the Trappist Monastery in Pleasant Hill and mentioned the Shakers in some of his writings. He admired their way of life and the spirituality that was the basis of their lives.

Bedroom in a traditional Icelandic home at a rural-life type of museum. I didn't check the exif data, but this was probably taken with an 8~16 Sigma

On Saturday, went to the Montreal Botanical Garden. Within a few minutes of walking in, we ran into this beautiful cardinal, perched super close to the trail. Had to (quietly) change lens to take the shot, but the bird just calmly stayed there while I was doing it. (DA HD 55-30mm F/4-5.8 WR)

Our little Sheltie was in an agility trial this weekend. When the trial is outside, I sometimes take pictures of other dogs during competition (generally I must get out of sight when our Sheltie runs, otherwise she gets distracted, and I've somewhat given up taking pictures at indoor meets because of the weirdly colored light and need for an extremely high ISO - like 25,000 - to stop the action). In any case, I pre-frame, pre-determine exposure on manual, pre-focus on manual, and set the camera on high speed multi-exposure. I generally must include much more of an obstacle than I want in the final image because the dogs go over it at different places or from different angles. In any case, below is a pre-crop and post-crop of one image I liked from this weekend, a very good Australian Shepherd. K3, 60~250mm @ 220mm, ISO 1600, 1/2000, f9

Nicely done! I really want to get out photographing some dog sports this year...

A border collie on its way up and over. I set the manual focus a little on my side of the bar, so this dog's face is probably just barely touching the in-focus zone. His ears appear to be beyond the sharp zone.
