Wow, that red is so striking. Good angle for that shot.

Who would have known? The Rokinon 85 1.4 would be such a great lens for birds in flight.

This picture made me think of something I have struggled with. The mindset that flare effects, like to the upper right of the frame, are 'bad' so I try to exclude them, or if they happen reject the image. How do you get a mental image of the outcome image to decide when it is suitable to allow the flare and to decide that it 'works' for the image?

The RWB in the flag and the RWB (and chrome) towards opposite corners are similar shades and create an interesting balance effect. Nice.

I've never thought flare was a bad thing especially if used to your advantage.

Way too cool john5100, I think you are living out my youth, only back when I was going to all those concerts, I only had an SV and a 55.

For me the challenge is to know when thinking of making the picture if the flare is likely to be advantageous, or to recognise through the viewfinder that the flare is good. Sometimes I have got something good, which I have thought of as fortuitous rather than having envisioned it in advance.

I'm getting ready for the solar eclipse that will occur in just under a year (on Aug. 21, 2017.) We are in the path of totality so I'm hoping for clear weather. I added a piece of solar film to an old UV filter for my Bigma and took a few practice shots today. I moved the camera around to be sure that the sunspots I saw were indeed sunspots and not dirt on the sensor.
