I love a wet-headed eagle! For a year and a half minus the coldest winter months here in the Capital Region of New York I've been casually "stalking" six adult eagles and two juveniles on the early mornings my shifts end just before the sun rises over the Hudson River in Green Island.
There are more details leading up to the photo on the Flickr post for it. This shot is one of the sharper favorites of at least 20 photos I took this day of this bird. Being pretty decent to begin with I did do some post-processing in darktable, nothing too drastic. Mainly cropped the dead space over the head and sides to frame the bird in better and tweaked the lighting to match what I saw at the time of the capture.
The head of this bird is the best part to me being wet already from the rain created that separation between the feathers that I love so much in other peoples eagle photos.
This is now my new favorite of the bird photos I've taken.
