Indeed! If I could improve one photographic element at this point, it would probably be my diffusion setup. (I am also often tempted get a lighter system, but that's not directly about the quality of the photos.)

Thank you! Yes, I'm a big fan of the DCR-250 - probably per dollar my absolute best photographic purchase! I even use it for lower magnification shots, where I could have removed it entirely and just used the macro lens by itself. Why? Well, because I'm a bit lazy , but also because since the working distance is about the same, but the lens is much less extended when near infinity focus with the Raynox, vrs at MFD without it, for a given flash setup, using the Raynox puts the diffusion surface much closer to the subject, giving softer light.
OK, I have what may seem like a really dumb question... the DCR-250 comes with an adapter for 52-67mm, but the lens looks like it is native 49mm, so, how do you have it mounted? without the adapter, right onto the filter ring? How does this effect the use of the stock hood?
Thanks a bunch in advance for your reply,
Eric

I use a 49-43mm step down ring instead of the adapter that ships with the DCR-250. Not sure about the hood - I never use it when shooting flash macro... Hope that helps!

Been awhile since I posted something here. Recovering from tendinitis in right elbow, so the K-1II/DFA150-450 stayed home and the K-3II & DA 55-300 PLM went for a walk. Had forgotten nice ASP-C gear is to carry and how great the photos turn out. Photos posted elsewhere.

K-3 and Tamron 300 2.8 with the F 1.7x AF adapter (510mm, ƒ4.5)
ISO 200, ƒ5.6, AV mode

We did get spot of sun today. I wore myself out with the chain saw then sat in the blind for a bit.

First the new guys.

Male American Goldfinch

Chipping sparrow

I counted over 70 purple finches at the feeder at one time today.

When there are that many you don't have to settle for feeder images, you cn go for something that looks more natural.

One of the regulars.
