I was a cabinet maker for 6.5 years, and worked in a shop that made reproduction antique pine furniture, so we used a lot of hand tools and kept them as authentic as possible.

At one point over lunch I commented that a lot of our best hand tools seemed to only be made in England. My foreman who was an english expat said "Ya, they're 40 years behind over there,"
There is much truth in that statement. My favorite hammer is a handmade cross peen hammer that came from an old carriage shop. It is pushing 200 years old. Something special about using old tools.

I think it is 50 now. They still have Saturday mail deliveries. In Australia those disappeared in the late 60s.

I heard Taiwan did better. In the late 80s, when society changed and many households became nuclear family only and both adults went out to work (both new at that time) the post office discovered a problem delivering sign-for items during normal office hours.

Their solution was creative - deliver the sign-for articles in the early evening when people would be home from work!

So long as they have been cared for and not used to wear-out.

Reminds of a time when I lived on a farm, one acre I owned in the middle of a working farm. One of the old timers who'd lived there back in the 1920s came to visit. He looked at my well and said "That darn well runs out of water every year when we're running the steam tractor."

I don't think I've ever seen one before, thanks for posting.

I never a ran steam tractor and I never ran out of water. SO, good advice.

Being a perennial city-slicker, wandering amongst all these machines was somewhat fascinating.

We have been asked to stay at home and are currently voluntarily self-isolating. Fortunately this is where I live and it is a pleasant clear autumn day. (X posted)

Lucky you, Ray. Right now March is trying to decide whether it really is spring or not. It's currently 1ºC (34ºF) and spotting rain that is expected to be flurries tomorrow.

Great spot. Any water birds? Can you set up feeders or is that frowned upon by the body corporate?

Thank you, Albert. I do realise how lucky I am. I won't be swapping with you and those temps. Brrrr!

Thanks, Arjay. It is a great spot. Yes, plenty of water birds = Australian Coots, Purple Swamphens, Ducks, Darters, Heron and two beautiful black Swans. Feeding the birds is NOT allowed.

This will have been taken with either the 35/2.4 or the 35/2.8 Limited, not sure which.

From today's dog walk....
K-3 and DA 55-300

We had heavy rains during the day. We got out in a small window of misty to very light rain.
