I would have done the same thing if I was in your shoes with a broken K5. And I agree with the assessment that an empty SD slot should not freeze the camera as you have found out the hard way. Hope this is a rare incidence of happening.

This does sound a little K5-ish. I would have lockups like that with a cable release under the first firmware. It may have been user error as to exactly how I inserted it, but the battery pull (with a group of 20 people waiting) should not be the answer.

I may join you on that one. My 540 FGZ was purchased with my K10d, so that accessory is way behind in updates.

Edit: Just saw the price, and then, again, I may not.

Unstable battery behaviour.

Need to keep an eye on my K3. Took 2 shots and then "Depleted Battery" message appeared. Switched the camera off and on and a solid battery icon was present. About 30 shots later one segment went off but stayed that way for the rest of the day... and that was with a lot of live view.
