The DxO update is out and it looks like it can handle my MAWB DNG files!

At least on my Windows 7 version it only recognized PEF files not K-3 DNGs.

Oh. Sorry to hear that. It works on OSX 10.8.5. It's perfect timing because I just finished a church retreat and have to process a few thousand photos. It's so far handling really well. I'm very pleased with what my new K3 can handle.

I'm new to the forum. I just got my new K-3 after using my K10D for years. I'm unable to open raw files in Aperture, iPhoto or Preview. The only thing that works is the Pentax utility, which is not ideal. I'm on the latest version of OS, Aperture, iPhoto (Mavericks + app updates).

Any tips or solutions?
I also couldn't use iPhoto (OSX Version 10.6.8) so used Lightroom version 3 and it works fine. I intend to update to the latest LIghtroom . . . I highly recommend Lightroom ~ it's well worth the investment.

Still no Aperture support

Apple has produced 2 updates now adding support for new raw formats, but still no K-3. If there is anyone else out there using Aperture or iPhoto, please let Apple hear about it. We do have a workaround, but it's a bit of a pain when you're dealing with hundreds of files.

Start your conversion, go make a pot of coffee, when you come back they're done.
OK so with a thousand files, you might want to wash the car, it just takes a little more organization

iOS 7 iPhoto on iPads won't open K-3 DNG files either. But Photogene does.

An old thread on DP Review discusses problems other cameras have had in getting their DNG files to be opened by Aperture. The suspicion was that DNG files from some cameras that require lens correction data to be embedded in the DNG for proper display couldn't be read. Might this be the issue with K-3 DNG files and special metadata for the variable white balance? Adobe might have quickly dealt with the issue by simply ignoring that metadata. One poster in that thread related the situation to Adobe's support for X-Trans sensor cameras. They quickly supported them but it was lousy. Apple took much longer but did a much better job. At least that was the assertion.

A third update from apple and, alas, still no K-3. Still grinding through the conversions - at least there is a workaround.

Normhead, since I should limit the coffee intake, I think it must be time for a new Mac instead. That'll ease the pain and shorten the wait!

The Mac update is now out , I downloaded it this afternoon and we're back to the same old routine. NO more converting with Adobe DNG converter, and it we3 reproscess all the files you've done previously.

There is a catch though. Direct DNG import from K-3 does work now. However, all my previous K-3 files processed previosly through Adobe DNG Converter are not accessible for editing anymore. There is a message what accompanies any older K-3 file editing attempt:

Image Cannot be Edited
This photo was adjusted using a version of Apple’s RAW processing that is not available on this system.

I found way around: export non-editable file as original into any folder and import it back to iPhoto Library. It may be edited again. However, it is very coumbersome technique. Any other suggestions?
