Pentax K-3 + Pentax K-Adapter / M42

Hey guys,

i'm new here. I just received my lovely brand new Pentax K-3 yesterday. I currently live in Germany and I'm quite lucky to get one piece from the first shipment from Pentax. Btw there is no Pentax K-3 to choose when registering!
Anyway, I also bought the original Pentax K-Adapter for M42 lenses from I would have a question about it. It's really easy to get it on and off with a pen but is it suppose to be slightly loose? I can really slightly move the adapter with my fingers. I didn't try to put any M42 lense on thought. Maybe with a lens on it's gonna be more firm.

Can someone confirm this or just tell me how it is with the adapter. Is it suppose to be really tight or is it normal that it's slightly loose?

Welcome to the forum.

I have two (both genuine Pentax) M42->K adapters and yes, without a lens mounted they can move very slightly on the mount, this is nothing to worry about.

Thanks! And thanks again Jonathan for the quick reply. OK great, can't wait to try my old Pentacon lenses on.

Yes, the genuine adapter will wobble slightly. This is not a problem with most lenses. It can be a problem with very narrow lenses, ones that don't cover/touch the camera. These are lenses with a narrow base, like Helios 44-2, Industar 50-2. In those cases, it might be worth considering a flanged adapter. These have a collar that covers the camera mount/contacts. This prevents light leaks and wobble, but it can also prevent infinity focus if it is too thick. And flanged adapters are generally cheaper, which has its own risks. For example, they require a tool to be removed from the camera, they might get stuck, etc. This is why the genuine adapter, even though it is not cheap and has its wobble, is still the best option
