Wondering if someone is being paid to stir up a little discontent around here.

"would any one mask the ricoh on k3"
I wouldn't. I'm happy that Ricoh is carrying on the Pentax line. "Credit where credit is due", ya know?

This thread is so 4 weeks ago. People were upset at the rumors that the Ricoh name would be on the camera. More than one respected poster said they didn't care at all about Ricoh products, like the GR.

Now we have the K-3 and an nice new limited. I'd say Ricoh has succeeded in making an awesome first impression with products that are, cleverly, co-branded with both names.

K-3 is a good sign, wait till Ricoh make a FF, then we know K-mount will be there to stay.

(yea, another thread skew toward FF...)

Pentax the brand is married to Ricoh now, they are building a family together, and we are going to have to accept that sooner or later. Otherwise, we will just make ourselves miserable.
Thanks for the response THoog. I am sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I am not miserable in any way. I enjoy my photography, I enjoy the Pentax equipment I already own, and I have more choice in the way of photography today than anyone ever has. I really believe that people will look back at this time period as one of the golden ages of photography. I am certainly not miserable. However I am more than a little disappointed. Not with Ricoh. They are only doing what every mega-corporation has ever done. What is disappointing is that it seems to mean so little to this groupl

Enjoy the Light!

I can't speak for everyone, but it's not that it means so little to me - the only SLR/dSLRs I've shot since 1982 were all Pentaxes; I've got a box of old bodies and a shelf of old glass, and I intend to shoot a Pentax for the next 30+ years if I can. But after watching the slow decline over the years, being hopeful, then disappointed with Hoya, I am encouraged by what I am seeing from Ricoh. I feel that are taking Pentax in a better direction - or at least, not heading as fast in the same direction towards the history books.

Regards,

I've been a Pentax man since about 1980 and would be sorry to see what is now just a brand name given less prominence but i can see why Ricoh might want to do it. They want to become well known as producers of quality cameras, something that should spill over into some of their other product lines. So it's something we will have to live with and I can. I just hope that they don't "do a Sony" and drop the Pentax name altogether and I don't think they will. Not for a few years, anyway - but if sound commercial reasons dictate otherwise, we'll just have to learn to live with it. Better that than no new cameras for our marvellous Pentax lenses - and no new K mount lenses.

They can call it "Fred" for all I care

...as long as the features and quality are there and my K-mount glass works on it.

For how long did Pentax cameras also say "Asahi" on them?

I wanted to get new car - a 370Z. Alas it said Nissan, not Datsun, on the nameplate, so of course I could not own it, and asked for a tissue from the salesman.

I just can't drink my beer any longer. it says Platinum on the bottle and not just Bud Light. There's no way i'll get buzzed now. This is absurd.
