Thanks! I'll get to put it through some good paces in the next week or two, I do a lot of nightclub and event shooting, usually with the K-7 or K-5iis. I am looking forward to seeing how the K-3 handles ISO1000-1600 and center AF in low light. (I don't care so much about the full grid of AF spots, but the sensitivity in the center spot is critical for me if I am AFing)

Mine too, delivered to the office so I can't use it until the weekend.
Have a question though if someone can help. Got a wedding to shoot in January with K3 and K5. I have a 70mm 2.4Ltd for close.portrait shots but looking to buy a Sigma or Tamron 70-200 2.8 or the Pentax 60-250DA* for longer shots in the church. Does anyone have a recommendation. Not sure of the lighting inside as the wedding is interstate. Any other suggestions very gladly received.

Don't forget the DA* 50-135 - much easier to handle than those others.

Fast and optically sublime.

I too would recommend the DA*50-135 over the DA*60-250. It is faster, smaller, handles better and gives almost as much reach at closer ranges.

We of the elite few - so lucky!

Thanks Mutters and Sandy for the recommendation of 50-135. Did look at that but I thought it might be useful to have a little more reach. I guess the 70-200 has been touted as a great lens (FL wise) for so long my thinking may have been coloured. Need to take a deep breath and think again.
Sandy, is your 31mm the FA 1.8? How do you find it?

cheers
Rob

My Sigma 70-200 is an excellent low-light concert lens, but the IQ of the DA*50-135 is so much better I rarely use it now. I would certainly recommend the Sigma over the DA*60-250 if you want reach at close quarters, especially in low light. I haven't used the Tamron, but it is screw drive so will be noisier, and probably slower focussing than the Sigma. Considerably cheaper though.

Yes, I have the FA31/1.8. It is an absolutely glorious lens. Sharp wide open, sumptuous colours, and beautiful bokeh. The focal length is close to the ideal normal lens for APS-C cameras.

Did anyone notice the silver edition came with 2 batteries? That was a very nice surprise.

...and (in Australia at least) an 8GB FluCard Pro. I haven't set it up yet.

Tamron 70-200 is a sweet lens on a K-5; it has also a very good price if you can still find it new. The downsize is it doesn't has fast AF (it's crew driven) and it's kind of fragile. If you want something smaller a Sigma 50-150 f 2.8 II would be my recommendation, but I don't know if you still can find a new one (I can't).
