Super Typhoon Haiyan passes close to Cebu

Super Typhoon Haiyan is about to pass close to Cebu , probably less than 100 miles north of the Ricoh/Pentax factory. It's just broken the World record for the strongest tropical cyclone on record to make landfall. The damage will be catastrophic, we can but hope that the eyewall misses all major population centres and of course misses Cebu - but it's so big that Cebu will be affected anyway. Worrying times.

Looks pretty bad.
Not a direct hit on Cebu City or Mactan Island, but considerable wind, rain and possibly storm surge damage in those areas seems un-avoidable given the size of this monster.

I am following the evolution on CNN, and the situation looks very bad. God have those peoples save.

For Pentax things does not look good, because it seems the Haiyan will also go to Vietnam.

Looks like this could be the most powerful storm ever to make landfall. Terrible for the people in the Philippines as if life wasn't hard enough already.

We're expecting heavy rain from this storm close to the Thailand-Lao border here on Monday.

Ok its over now and Cebu City was about saved. But city is without electricity, i do not know how long time, not more than max few days i believe.

I believe there is no real damage to pentax factory there. The center of typhoon went from daanbantayan, wich is the most northest place in island, cebu city is far from there about in the middle. We can all relax now

There are people there! I feel for them before economic impacts like some factory.

Besides, most factories are built to withstand the impact of many things, especially frequent risks in their location. The biggest risk to productionin the factory, after recovery of basics like power supply is whether the workers hare dealign with their personal suffering.

The news I was hearing this morning indicated destruction from wind but suggested the movement of the storm over land was quite fast, educing the risks of major flooding. The reports indicated how frightening it was.

Yes, and factory damage could affect K-3 availability (as with the recent earthquake thread, also in this board). It didn't get a direct hit but Cebu City is apparently without electric power at the moment so Pentax production on the nearby island will probably be affected anyway - not good for the Christmas markets unless the stock is already manufactured and shipped.

But yes, our main concern should rightly be with the destruction that must have occurred especially a few dozen miles further north where the eyewall struck and our thoughts are I am sure with the millions of people affected.

No problem if the mods want to move it though (and they should if so move the earthquake thread as well).

Yes, I guessed that but it seems that General Talk would be more appropriate as this is not K-3 specific.
