I got that last night, but it's coming up fine for me now. Not sure what's up with that.

Thank you for the explanation. It is often the case that each option (in this case for a VF) has its pros and cons. Does the s-screen screw up the spot metering on the dslr like the old split lens screen. thats why i never got the split lens screen for my K5 - i'd gotten use to spot metering and the situations it helps out on.
No, doesn't affect metering, that's another of it's advantages over a split-screen.

The site may be up, but the S-type cards are not in stock. Or, am I missing something? And, Wow!!! the English on the site is whacked.

You are correct, but I think this happens fairly regularly there. You may try and see if it will let you put it in your cart anyway. Failing that, I seem to remember emailing the guy there once when they were out of stock and he told me how to go about ordering one. He gets new ones to modify pretty regularly, though. Before I bought my first one from him I tried ordering a stock Canon ee-s screen and cutting it down myself. I failed miserably and will never try that again. There are people here on the forum that have done it successfully, though. I love how fs.com offers several different markings. My first one I ordered with no markings, but discovered that I really prefer some kind of reference in the frame. The ones I have now (in my K-5IIs and one waiting to go in my K-3) both have the "grid" markings, the last, bottom option shown on the product page. Those work best for me.

Hi

As a follow up to my post No.11 above, C.R.Kennedy's response is as follows:

Quote:
We are yet to receive any servicing information for the new K-3.

I suspect that it will be the same but I won't know until they send us the parts lists/service manuals.
Kind regards,
Rob Grunden

I transplanted the focusingscreen.com Canon S-type from the K-5 into the K-3 today, works perfectly with the stock shim. Same exact procedure, I wouldn't be surprised if Pentax even reused the same parts.

One note though, that's awesome that it worked for you without having to change the shim, I should be so lucky, but it won't necessarily be that way for everyone. There are variations in individual bodies. There was quite a bit of this when everyone first starting getting the s-screens in their K-5's. Of course, if they've found a way to eliminate these variances with the K-3, that would be freakin' awesome!
Well, turns out that I, too, was so lucky! I just installed my S-screen in my replacement K-3 that I received Friday and tried it with the stock shim first. Bingo! If something really has changed on the K-3 that makes this swap work without re-shimming then what a bonus from the folks at Ricoh. I would imagine that it's something inadvertent, but I'll take it. I would definitely like to hear from other users that do this to see if this is indeed a known difference between the K-3 and previous bodies or if we're just that lucky. Re-shimming is absolutely the worst part of doing this, so I'm pretty excited!

Hi

Had a reply from CR Kennedy as Follows:

Quote:
I've just received the parts list for the K-3. It has a different focus than the K-5, but the focusing adjustment shims are the same for both models. With this being the case the screens should have the same dimensions.
Kind regards,
Rob Grunden
