Just updated to 1.10 - still a minor delay, probably half as before, but still takes a fraction longer to shoot with flash vs without.

Same as before. Maybe I'm just getting quicker with practice at raising my finger to the vertical.

I noticed this delay too as soon as i got the K3, didnt happen with the K5ii .. i use to shoot night events so i use the external flash a lot.. and its kind of unconfortable at the begining cus at least there is an extrasecond.. Just updated to the 1.10 firmware and i will try it again at lowlight conditions..

I have the same delay as before with the new 1.10 firmware. If i use the camera in manual mode there is no delay so it seems to be related to the metering system.

Good evening to all, today I caught the pentax k -3 only body in exposition, and the first thing I noticed is the delay of the internal and external flash . I read the first three pages of this forum, but my computer is too slow to read all 13 pages and translate in my language , I would ask if you'r have found a solution , otherwise I have to bring it back tomorrow , just open the store??

It's a bit annoying because on the k -5II, this problem does not exist...

I also updated the firmware to version 1.11 , but nothing has changed... the serial number of my k -3 is: 4866598

THANKS you all for your response.....

Sorry, No solution as of now... Still hoping.

---------- Post added 09-30-14 at 11:17 PM ----------

I must add that the delay is not as long as in the beginning but still enoyingly long.

Thanks Tjompen1968, but, if for some cameras there is the problem, and not for others camera, I think that the return to the store, as soon as possible, right?

It is a firmware/software thing so all cameras has the lag but we humans have different perception of time... I will defenately keep my K-3. If I use flash I mostly use it in manual, i.e no lag.

It's annoying for me, but not a reason to return the K3. Depends how you use the camera.

I think it's very important that the camera must shoot exactly when you press the button and not third of a second after ...
But this does not happen in K-5 and K-20, you know something about this, and can confirm that it is on all cameras K-3 or only some? If it's just for some, i can bring back to shop...
Thanks to everyone for all the answers ... (sorry my bad english)

I returned from the store, even with my pentax k-3, I tested another K-3 and has the same problem.

This evening I took a picture of my girlfriend, she smiled (I saw in the viewfinder ), and with the flash already open (not red eye mode), I pressed the shutter button and when I look at the picture the smile was gone. Surely I did not have the time to set the flash to manual, and this is just one example, which does not happen with k-50, k-500, Nikon, Canon and Sony ... (tested in shop)...

I think that is a serious flaw, the camera is made to capture the moment! With and without flash.

Come on, if Pentax solves this little "delay" on K-3, he also won the award for best APS-C camera, even in 2015

Thank you all for the help!

The delay seems to depend more on the flash. My Metz 50 AF1 has a slight delay, not enough to miss shots. My sigma ring flash has a long delay. It may be worthwhile reading the thread for people's experience with specific flash models.
