I must say that so far I have not had any power on issues with my K3 and grip.

I use Eneloops in my grip, fwiw.

My shutter count is at 2637 which includes two large events and a few high school sporting events, as well as some nasty outdoor shoots (very cold). Grip is always on.

I pray it continues this way

Now on a side note, by Sigma 70-200 2.8 is acting up and randomly disconnecting itself from both the K3 and the K5iis...grr

K-3 + D-BG5 has been with Pentax service for 2 weeks now. No word from them at all. No updates, estimates, status reports, nothing. Apparently, the only time I will learn anything about my camera is when it shows up back. In 4-6 wks.
I'm wondering has anyone else had their power-on issue fixed?

I never sent mine in. I'm still hoping for a firmware fix or someone comes up with a definitive solution based on mixing battery types/vintages. In the meantime, I only keep one battery in my camera and the problem doesn't occur. I am anxious to hear the outcome for you as well as it may guide me in how to deal with the issue.

Great news: I believe the Firmware update 1.03 has actually fixed my Power-on issue! I still need to confirm by checking long-term behaviour, but so far I was able to power-on the K-3 instantaneously, even after a 40 minutes shut off period. I will keep you posted.

Sounds promising. I hope we all experience the same. I haven't upgraded yet . . . maybe tonight. Thanks for letting us know.

Anyone else?

Power-on fix by FW 1.03 seems confirmed: after being switched off for more than 5 hours, my K-3 now powered on in split second...

I can also confirm that the Power-On problem is now gone with the latest firmware upgrade. K3 now turns on instantly after being turned off for long intervals.

Actually this is not the same as the problem being discussed in this thread. In this case, the camera will not power up. Not sure if there would be any relation between the two problems. At any rate, I also hope the firmware 1.03 fixes your issue as well.

Upgraded to firmware 1.03 this evening. No more power-on issues at all. Very happy about that!

This is good news. Obviously Pentax found a way to solve this with a f/w update. Hopefully, when my camera comes back that's all they had to do to it, too! If they are on the ball there at the service centre, they'll flash it, test it, and ship it back pronto! They have had it nearly 3 weeks and I've missed it.

Happy day! While I'm glad to be able to go back to using two batteries, I'm a little disappointed that it took this long to get a fix. Oh well, I'm still thankful.
