Pete_XL,
Thanks for the tips--although I'm afraid we’re taking the thread in an OT direction (perhaps a new thread entitled "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Astro Photography But Were Afraid to Ask"?). I already tried the Andromeda galaxy using the Voigtlander SL 125mm Macro (which did a great job BTW), but with much less than the 200 shots you recommend. Not too bad but obviously far from your images. Great comet shot!

Just starting out

Hi all, just received my k3-2 a couple weeks ago. I came from the first K5. Just wondering how to start playing with Astrophotography? I have a solid Manfrotto tripod. Only lens I have is 18-135mm. I also have a mint Super Takumar f1.4 from my Spotmatic, but don't have the adaptor yet. I have no stacking software yet, and being on a Mac, don't know if that's a problem. Any help getting started would be great! I have been into astronomy for years, and have a decent scope. Never tried photography with my s one either. Probably would be better off using my Skyview Pro mount, than astrotracer. My scope has a camera mount on top, although seeing my new K3-2 sitting on top, would worry me LOL!

My widest decent lens is the FA 43mm and birds in flight are my photography passion. Nonetheless I'm glad to have the astrotracer. It gives very, very part time astro photographers like me the option of getting some starscapes that people will enjoy.

This one from a recent climbing trip to the Grampians (the Oz ones, not the Scottish ones).
