K3 Hourglass

Why does my K3 remain in the hourglass mode so long, much slower than my K5.
Sandisk Ultra 64 SD card.

Well, your Sandisk Ultra is rather slow.

I just did a quick test - nothing scientific like pulling out a stopwatch - I have an Ultra lying around for some other cameras, comparing it against the non-pro Sandisk Extreme which is slightly faster, I was on the hourglass screen for a much longer time. This was taking a burst of 18 to 21 photos.

In short, use a faster card.

Yup; IMHO, the SanDisk Ultras are not any faster than run-of-the-mill cards, so it's a good bet that the bottleneck is the card itself. And since the K-3 files are larger, it will take more time to write them to the card.

Sandisk Ultra 64 SD card.
You should get a 45Mb/s extreme card if not a extreme pro 95Mb/s for the best performance. The K-3's specific performance figures can be found here:

Exactly.
Even on a K-5, SanDisk Extreme Pro cards make a real difference to the speed of camera reads and writes.
