Auto EV compensation setting

I came across this setting in the menus. As I half expected the manual is of no help as it just says the same that the camera already told me.

Searching around the forum I found this thread relating to this feature on earlier cameras:

I don't see this feature on my K-r and K-30 and thought it was something new on the K-3 but the above thread shows it has existed in the past and seems to have been revived.

It seems to be meant to prevent overexposure by over-riding what it would consider incorrect settings and may be helpful if well designed and thought out. Mostly for when I absent mindedly ignore the flashing over/under exposure warning in the viewfinder, something which happens to me a lot more often than it should.

I've tried what was suggested in the K10/K20 thread on the subject and can see similarities in the behaviour.

Has anyone used this feature on the K-3 and/or experience with it on other cameras?

The 86K exposure sensor opens up many new possibilities and I can see some ways it could make this feature much more useful than it could have been on older cameras.

It's quite simple:
on- the camera will still override the parameters set by you should it measure that the exposure will be off
Off- you'll get what you get.

Generally I have it on. But off for specific user modes ie. Bird in flight...don't want the camera adjusting spot meter
