First football game of the season and first chance to use the K3. All with a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.

Looked like an interception:

But ended up a TD for the other team.

Thanks. I do handhold it most of the time. I have a monopod that I will use as well at times. I'm pretty tired at the end of the night.

Those are quite nice, especially the last one, the second, and the third one. It's all about faces really. Also nice to have shutter speed at least 1/750 for crispness which is not easy at dusk.

I thought you might but wanted to be sure. Those are really well taken photos. Nice capture on the expressions.

Do I detect a touch of flash? If so, it's effective but very subtle.

I think so. Graham Watson popularized the use of flash in cycling photography many moons ago.

Yes, forgot to list the Metz 58 AF-2. I've been running it in Auto mode with the camera in X-Sync and it can work pretty well (but not always).

America's Pastime. Buster Posey smacks a line drive the other day in AT&T park. The Giants won, 4-1.

Taken with the Sigma 18-250, f8, 1/1000th of a second.
Shooting through a backstop from right behind home plate makes for some interesting challenges, both focus-wise and compositionally.

I found the same thing with soccer through the goal. At the time I was manual focus and manual exposure only. The way I got around it (and still do to shoot sports) is to prefocus and wait for the action to get there. I was issued two 36 exposure rolls of Tri-X for a game, so every shot had to be as close to a winner as I could get them. Exposure was no problem; the little piece of paper in the film cannister took care of that, and with Tri-X there was certainly some slack. The focus came down to knowing to the fraction of a fraction of a second what the shutter lag was when I pushed the release. That lag, by the way, is a heck of a lot longer and much less predictable when you allow your camera to set the exposure and focus after you press the button.
