Simon, a nice example of a relatively-low-shutter-speed panning job. What shutter speed did you use?

Dan
Thanks Dan. The photo was at 1/100s. I did try a few at lower shutter speeds, but the up and down movement caused by the rough track meant that this was about as slow a shutter speed as I could go.

Cheers,

Simon.

This training session kicks off the dance competition season, and another year of difficult HS gym lighting to deal with.
K-3 with DA*50-135

BTW if you are in the Los Angeles area and want to attend any of the competitions you can see a calendar here Events - Welcome to CADTD!

From last year's championship.

This thread has been quiet lately. Here are a few from recent basketball games.

Some more basketball shots...

3 shots out of a burst of 8 made with K3 and DA* 50-135mm @ 50mm showing the first, last and a couple of middle shot in the series. Camera exposure mode was TAv, AFC, Sel 3, EV +0.3, Hi-speed burst and taken RAW. The light in the stadium was poor and the shots were made at 1/250s, F2.8 and ISO 3200 - so a bit of motion blur apparent. I have used this lens a lot over the past few years for basketball and find the AF works quickly enough to get most shots in focus and contrary to its reputation as being one of the slowest focussing Pentax lenses. I'd be interested to know what other actual users find. I suspect that the lens is long travel and slow from infinity to close but that is quick when the focus is close at the start and then is fast enough to track competently??? In this series one shot was back-focussed and the rest were good to spot-on. Pictures were PP'd in LR5 - cropped, NR etc. The K3 does well in trying conditions.

Howdy all. A few from recent test days.

K3 & Sigma 70-200. Really only a snap shot, but liked the aspect through the trees.

From the Australian Open. Got in some good practice with the K3. Still have no idea on the optimal settings though.

I think I've found a new favorite "sport", something called buhurt.

Yes, it's exactly what it looks like - medieval re-enactment + UFC. That's right, full contact with swords, shields, and a lot of punching in the face. No it's not insane, it's way beyond that, and it's apparently very popular. Having witnessed an event, I can totally understand why.

Shot with K-3 + 70-200 HSM II. Had another K-5 with 16-50 but the action was too violent to be on the rails - or the front row for that matter. Moved up to the top row after a knight flew through the fence, to protect the gear (and my health as a bonus).
