@Andrew -- back when, as a creative director in an ad agency, we made a national campaign for Nashua copiers, which were the same as Savin copiers, which were all made by Ricoh.

Ricoh makes everything. As is well known, they also make Nikon and Canon cameras -- but they only put their name on Pentax models, as the quality level is sufficient to represent their daibutsu-corporate image properly.

@MrNewt -- totally agree with your thought that Normhead's line --
"They valued you so much as a customer, they bought a whole company just to get you back. "
-- would be perfect in an ad campaign aimed at Canikon owners who were previously Pentax owners. As you wrote, brilliant!

Jon404 are you sure about your second statement? If true, why not use this as a selling tool? I think they will be competing with themselves if they go after Canikon too strong. I believe all they need to do is get the K-3 out into the retail market so more people can get their hands on one. They missed the opoortunity with the K-x when it was introduced. Great reviews and lots of interest in the photo press, but only available via mail order over most of the country.

@PentaxBob -- you're probably right -- first things first -- and I'd agree that what comes first is getting the cameras actually into key stores -- like here in southern California, Samy's and Calumet. And at least ONE STORE, PLEASE! here in San Diego -- hey, there are only 2,500,000 of us here, what's going on?

The weather sealing is a great selling point also. Sure could build an ad campaign around that one. 'From Kabul to Kalamazoo' ... whatever. Battle tough. etc, etc. But all that's another thread's story, right? This one, we need to figure out how to light up that RICOH label with super-bright LEDs!

I think I may print a RICOH sticker and put over the Ugly PENTAX on the front of my K-3.

I mean REALLY.

That's entirely possible. Never discount the placebo effect of anything.

It won't work. The grip only fits the Ricoh-Pentax K-3.

Meant as a joke I'm sure, but there is a bit of truth there. If the craftswoman is happy with her tools the results will show it. I really don't even notice the Ricoh label or even care but I do think that anything that disturbs the creative process will cause the result to be less than it could have been. So if Lauren takes better pictures with a bit of tape on the back of her camera, good for her. I know craftsmen who tape up their hammers to make the grip fit better, this is just the same I think. The tool should be an extension of yourself, whether it be hammer or camera and anything that prevents that needs to be changed.

Thankfully Lauren can fix her irritation with a bit of tape. My irritation is the silly placement of the AF mode button. I just cannot find it without taking the camera away from my eye and looking, not even after practicing. Wish I could apply tape to move it............
