The white balance tool is simply amazing.
Indeed. Even a bit unique in what it can do, even for JPEGs.

Although I prefer the flexibility offered by LR + NIK, in defense of PDCU-5, its adjustment nomenclature matches the adjustment features of the K-3's built-in JPG engine. This means can you import a file into PDCU-5, fine tune it to your liking then use these adjustments to fine tune your K-3 to produce similar OOC JPGs. In some cases, the output may not be perfect, but it gets you a long way toward getting things pretty close. Add a minor amount of tweaking to the exported image and you can produce output that's good to go.

Cheers... M

That is a nice feature IF I could get it to work on my desktop. Though it works on my laptop, that doesn't help much because Colormunki won't work on my laptop and the colors are off.

BTW, I apologize for my apparent vitriol with my original post. I was getting frustrated and I don't always handle frustration well.

I think this is interesting. Seems like quite a bit of effort required to process DNG/PEF in order to produce results similar to out of camera JPGs with K-3. I have always preferred to shot RAW but I am shooting DNG+JPG with K-3 and generally preferring the JPGs. Maybe it is just Lightroom, but hate to admit that JPGs are maybe good enough that I am starting to question whether PP effort is worthwhile. Having said that, I will continue to shoot RAW+ just in case.

I agree. I shoot RAW+ and have been very pleasantly surprised by many of the jpgs. Still need raw occasionally but this seems to be a big improvement.

Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) as bundled into all versions of Lightroom does just fine with PEF files. That being said, I do feel your pain. My version of SilkyPix for Pentax (I don't remember its proper name) is still in its shrink-wrap in the box. I avoided it by reputation even before I took delivery of my K10D in 2007.
