Woot! They also updated Camera Raw for Photoshop CS6 and Bridge CS6 to support PEFs.

The results from my K-3 files are different from using the previous "naive" DNG reader. Less noise at low ISOs, and better color fidelity in highlights... (channels are not clipping as fast), and this is without any custom profile or settings!

Way to go Adobe!

But why anyone would want PEF files anymore is beyond me. No Lightroom sidecar files with DNG which i solely use - now.

There are different philosophies. For those who don't mind the XMP sidecar files, and those who are concerned about any fiddling with the original image files, PEF files have a nice feature in that they are relatively immune to being altered by software.

Believe it or not everyone doesn't use Lightroom. I shoot PEF and have for years with no reason to switch.

Sorry guys, I didn't realize the use of DNG was not as universal as i had assumed. About 15 Camera Manufacturers like these natively support it

If you already have any paid version of v5, it's free.
If you don't have v5, you will have to pay for an upgrade (from v3, v4 etc).

Thanks. Just as I had guessed. Never used LR before. Only used Raw Therapee before and the Silkypix. Now that I have resurrected my Dell D620 laptop I would like to learn post processing either using free tools or paid ones like LR5!

How is white balance with LR5? I really like the way LR4 displays K20D raw files, but LR4 colours are miserable with K-3 DNG, compared to DCU5.

I haven't detected any specific problems. Colours seems pretty good - with flash, with daylight, with LED stage lighting even.

But maybe I am blind, since I didn't see much difference between processing K-3 DNG's with v4.4 or v5.3.

However, I haven't used the new, fancy multi-AWB option with the K-3, just regular AWB. LR5 can't seem to process multi-AWB properly yet, by all accounts, hence some colour rendition issues with people using LR.

White balance seems more, um, balanced, and reasonable. The unexpected benefit I did notice was performance in general. LR seems to be running at speeds reminiscent from three versions ago. Very nice.

I also purchased the Huelight camera profiles and think they are very much worth the $10. The dev also just released a fourth "medium" level profile. To me the Huelight profiles provide a more pleasing white balance than Adobe standard or the embedded.
